I’m not sure what happened to my wish to watch a lot of foreign movies. I did for a while but didn’t review them and then I stopped. This means that my own participation in the World Cinema Series and Richard’s (Caravana de recuerdos) Foreign Film Festivval never really took off. While Richard and I were not that active, others were. Especially four people have contributed quite a lot of reviews. At the beginning of the year I had said that
At the end of the year I will give away a DVD to the person who has managed to cover the most countries.
The winner can choose between a DVD for up to 25$ or an amazon voucher.
And the winner is Guy (Phoenix Cinema/His Futile Preoccupations) who has contributed reviews from 12 different countries.
Congratulations, Guy.
Collectively we have managed to cover over 30 countries. Not a bad result at all. Thanks to everyone who has participated. I hope you will join again next year.

I didn’t know there’s a prize involved…if I know, I’d written more reviews 😉 I love to buy another Mighty Boosh DVD.
Congratr to Guy 🙂
I really like this event, as I have written in my latest post…I Hope you’ll host it again next year.
You know what, I forgot about the prize and remebered about a week ago and had to even look up whether it was the most movies or the most countries – but Guy would have won in both categories.
Nexte year – there is a new chance. 🙂
that’s okay…I am just joking 😉
I never really play for prizes in any challenge, just enjoying the fun
Nobody was aware that there would be a prize. 🙂
Your post is making me think. There once was a time when I called myself a film buff. I love art movies, international movies, classics, and yes even mainstream films. Time has prevented me from watching many a lot films over the last few years. I have choseni to make reading a higher priority. Something to look forward to in retirement.
I usually watch quitea lot of movies buut in the last few months I didn’t get the time at all. But there are such amazing movies out there. I’ll return to watching film with more dedication next year.
I’m truly amazed. I petered out about halfway through the year and had started and never finished several reviews.
Thanks!
It’s funny, I was sure Fiona contributed the most as she was the most consistent, still reviewing last month but you were so active in the beginning and then after August it stopped. Still way better than me and Richard.
I’ll need you address again. You tell me what you prefer a DVD or voucher.
Thanks for involving me in this international cinema retrospective and for posting links to my reviews. Congrats to Guy. Don’t spend all of that voucher in the same shop guy 😉
Thanks for participating, Ronan. I think ther result isn’t bad at all. It takes some time for projects like this to take off. Next year might even be more active.
That’s quite a list and an excellent resource for international films! I know how easy it is to be excited about a new project but then get busy with other things and then not quite follow through as you’d like. I love movies but I don’t watch as many foreign films as I’d like–too many things I’d like to do in my free time and not enough free time…
I’m pleased with the list and there are quite a few I want to watch now as well. I watched several but never got aroud to reviewing them. Probabaly because I had already too man other posts.
Maybe I should reserve at least one Sunday per month next year.
I’m determined to do better this year. Happy new year!
Me too, I want to do MUCH better. 🙂
Happy New Year to you as well.
Glad to have taken part, Caroline. If you decide to do another one this year I’ll be sure to submit more reviews. Happy New Year to you!
Happy New Year, Ruth.
Yes, there will be another one and I hope to be more active myself. 🙂
I was wondering what happened to your film project, because I was really looking forward to the reviews. I feel sad that I missed it, because I didn’t check the event’s home page. The above list is really awesome! I will bookmark it and come back later and look for suggestions. I have watched some of the movies in the list – ‘The House of Flying Daggers’, ‘Amelie’, ‘Bicycle Thieves’, ‘Life is Beautiful’, ‘District 9’, ‘An Education’, ‘Amazing Grace’. I liked all of them, especially ‘Amazing Grace’ which was one of my favourite movies out of those I saw last year. I should have really participated in this event, because I saw tonnes of movies last year 🙂 I hope to participate this year. Thanks for hosting this event and for this wonderful post! Congratulations to Guy for watching and reviewing films from the most number of countries!
It would be lovely if you would join.
I didn´t post any wrap up posts which wasn´t so ideal. People didn´t know what others contributed.
I will chnage this this year. I would also like to review more. I still think it´s a great idea.
The list is longer than I thought it would be and some people have really made an effort.
Ther will be a reward again this year. 🙂
Looking forward to it, Caroline! I mostly wrote brief reviews in Facebook and some on my blog. It will be nice to participate in this event and write longer reviews and read other participants posts and take film suggestions. Can’t wait for the event to start 🙂
It often takes a year or two for an event like this to kick off properly.
I´m sure this year should be better. From my side as well. 🙂
I have bookmarked this page as a wonderful list of films from around the world to watch. Had a quick scan and could only see a handful I recognise. I don’t watch a lot of films, and would like to get to know more of what’s happening beyond Hollywood.
I hope to repeat it this year. It takes a while until an event like this attracts a lot of people. There are still such a lot of countries to cover.
when will it start? I alredy have 2 British movies scheduled tomorrow 🙂
I have several Japanese movies, Swedish, Iran, German, and hoping I can find more as the year goes.
I’m not sure yet. Soon, I hope.
